Adeus Lenin! (Good Bye, Lenin!)

The love of a mother for her children is unquestionable and has been portrayed many times in film, but the plot of the excellent German film “Goodbye Lenin!” "Shows what a child is able to protect his mother. The setting is East Germany in late 1980, Christiane is abandoned by her husband and creates Alex and Ariane alone, a supporter of the socialist system suffers a heart attack at a rally in a coma and is exactly what occurs during the fall of the Wall Berlin (held on November 9, 1989), known as the Wall of Shame, and the dominance of the capitalist system. After some months she awakes, but doctors recommend that she avoid going through strong emotions. To avoid this, Alex recreates the scene in the apartment of the former East Germany, including creating a video with a friend with false news, including a report stating that Coca-Cola was a socialist invention, and another showing that Westerners were that brought down the wall to have lived in eastern Germany, or just forging the victory of socialism to please his mother, proving that to protect someone we love we get to lie. No doubt with great good humor and emotional scenes the film shows a very important moment in recent history of our society.

The episode is a backdrop for the movie script was a little over 20 years, is historically short time, but society has a short memory, I believe is the duty of education to inform students of such facts, example of consistently exposing the differences between socialist and capitalist systems, and other subjects that deal with this period, and this movie is a great opportunity to create discussions about the subject. Unfortunately the place where there was the Berlin Wall or the Wall of Shame as I prefer to call it today is just a tourist attraction, and pieces of it are sold to collectors around the world.

"Goodbye, Lenin!" Was directed by Wolfgang Becker, and has cast Daniel Brühl (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Katrin Sab. Another German film that discusses the subject is the excellent "Edukators" directed by Hans Weingartner (with great cast Daniel Brühl), questioning the values
and displays the wish that youth have for change.

Based on true events the movie " The Basketball Diaries" chronicles the career of Jim young, a great basketball player and extremely talented poet, but whose life is destroyed and its future threatened when together with his group of friends engage in the world drugs. Narrated in a very realistic movie focuses on a young man without moral lessons, which makes it very attractive. The events were set in the 1970s in New York but may be considered relevant, because regardless of the time we all go through adolescence can be considered the bridge to adulthood, and this crossing is not easy, because adolescents are not children, but not adults, the time of construction of identity, of choices that can define the path of life, and it is exactly this point that many are involved with drugs.

A highlight scene is when Jim says that many people enter the world of drugs believing they have everything under control, but then realize that the addiction becomes a work of 09 hours. to 17 pm, making clear the seriousness of the situation. Unfortunately some live full time in this condition, no days off and no time to rest and I should point out that alcohol is a drug and also destroys many lives.

I believe that poetry is a noble art and easily accessible and can be one of the ways that the teacher should use for your students to express their dreams, fears, and is also a way to expose their ideas.
Today some groups in society are in favor of legalizing drugs and even the home cultivation of herbs, believing it would be a way to minimize the traffic, in front of a discussion about this issue is another suggestion to be worked in the classroom. Jim Carroll's creativity was not destroyed by drugs, and what you have experienced in this phase are portrayed in his book "The Basketball Diaries," which led to the film directed by Scott Kalvert (Deuces Wild). Considered by many as the best performance by Leonardo Di Caprio, the film brings the cast Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter) and Juliette Lewis (The Other Sister). Besides a great script movie soundtrack also a very well produced. The Brazilian film "Bicho de Sete Cabeças" with Rodrigo Santoro (in an excellent performance) is another film that deals with it a true and very close to the reality of our youth.

Tsotsi is the leader of a gang that terrorizes people in Johannesburg, but the vehicle after stealing a lady's life changes because when you come home realize that in the back seat of the vehicle had a newborn baby. Given the situation he tries to keep the child alive when the baby cries from hunger and the only solution he finds is to feed it with condensed milk, but at the same moment a knock on your door and he hides the child to not see it, and ends leaving home. Returning is the baby with the whole body dominated by ants.
The central theme of the film is the relationship of the couple with the baby, because from that moment Tsotsi redeem his past and feelings dormant for your sad and violent reality. The boy finds redemption in a possible child, a reason to rethink their actions and change their lives. The question is, society is willing and prepared to receive people who have committed theft, murder? What really needs to be done so that others do not appear "Tsotsi" (meaning thief, rogues)?
Another very important issue that should be discussed when watching this film is breastfeeding, breastfeed their babies because it is an act that ensures the health of children, as in the actual film Tsotsi goes looking for a young mother who had recently given birth and that ends beyond the breastfeeding baby son found the boy. It is worth noting that currently some "celebrities" uninformed claim that they prefer to stop feeding their children in order to stay fit, but these people forget they are public opinion leaders and thoughtless statements like these can have a catastrophic effect.
Impossible not to compare this production directed by Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), with the great success of Brazilian cinema "City of God", since both expose the inequality and violence in which people live in large suburbs, but I Lucyano Jorge believe that the comparisons should stop there, because in a matter of production, photography, script and the film directed by Brazilian Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardener and Blindness) is undeniably superior. "Stolen Childhood" is a film produced in South Africa and won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, and was based on the novel by Athol Fugar.

A Noviça Rebelde (The Sound of Music)

Undoubtedly "The Sound of Music" is one of the greatest classics in the history of cinema. Young Maria (Julie Andrews, simply magnificent) can not adapt the rules of the convent and for this reason is put to work in the home of the Capital George Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), a widowed man who creates his seven children in a strict manner, following procedures to maintain military discipline. But with the arrival of the new governess the situation changes gradually, even in situations often hilarious, charismatic Maria can win over everyone with her joy.
In the educational film shows the transformation that music makes people's lives because it is an art that goes beyond entertainment, teaches many values such as discipline and teamwork. Another point that can be worked with students is the historical context, considering that the story is set during the Second World War, and as the Trapp family fleeing Austria, many other people in several countries had to abandon their families ae homes to escape the atrocities committed by Nazis led by Adolph Hitler. Another great lesson taught by the film is the importance of family, whether formed by parents, brothers, uncles and friends, and we have to take care of our families because the greatest wealth we have are people who believe in us, who support us in protect, because we could only overcome the obstacles in our lives when we have people we can trust the man born to live in society, and this is an art that we learn every day and constantly.
For many, "The Sound of Music" is old and outdated, I believe  is a timeless film, great music that has enchanted people for generations, and all who consider themselves fans of film should watch it.

Oscar-nominated in 10 categories won five: best film, director, editing, sound and soundtrack. Julie Andrews was nominated for best actress but did not win, many believe that this occurred because she had won the previous year for his role in another great classic "Mary Poppins". Another curiosity is that the Trapp family really existed.

E a vida continua (And the band played on)

This excellent film produced by HBO tells the battle to a researcher Don Francis (played by Matthew Modine, star of  Birdy) to make the medical authorities and government before the emergence of a new virus. AIDS was initially called "gay cancer," because the first victims were gay men in San Francisco, and unfortunately there was a lot of prejudice that was fed by total ignorance of the mode of transmission of the virus, but that changed when there were cases among hemophiliacs and dependent drugs. Even with such a situation the laboratories of greed refused to perform the tests in blood banks, a fact which unfortunately contributed to lack of control and spread of the virus.
Another extremely important point which is denounced in the film is the posture of utterly ETHICS researcher Robert Gallo (Alan Alda in an excellent performance), who played with the French patent Lue Montagnier's discovery of the retrovirus that caused AIDS, so that this dispute was
go to court.

If generation of the 1970s practiced free sex that did not happen in the 1980 decade the discovery of AIDS, fear took hold of everyone and the attitude of much of the population was only sex with condoms. But over time this changed with the emergence of drug seized the accommodation of persons, and AIDS is still spreading among the young and people over the age of 50, ie, information and awareness are still the best medicine ... And the Band Played On...

The contributions to the semi-documentary showing this brings are many and not confined only to elementary and high school, because in undergraduate courses is still widely used, not only in medicine courses, but also in other courses such as Administration, focused discussion ETHICS.

In addition to Matthew Modine and Alan Alda, the film stars Anjelica Huston, Steve Martin, Ian McKellen Phil Collins, Richard Gere, among others, who starred in the film for no fee. The film is based on the book by Randy Shilts, journalist who died in the year 1990 due to complications from HIV. The original title of the book as much as the movie "And the Band Played On" is an allusion to the band that was aboard the Titanic that even during the accident continued to play.
